Movie Pilot was an American entertainment website that covered news and editorial for movies, television, popular culture, and video gaming (see its Wikipedia page). Similar to medium.com, external editors could leverage its popularity to build their brand.
Originally founded in Berlin, the company also acted as a social media agency for movie studios, including 20th Century Fox and Sony, using audience analytics software to conduct digital marketing campaigns across social media.
While getting deep into CDN tech to scale the application to work reliably for its large active user base (it sometimes had more monthly active users than Reddit), my work focus was on the Medium-like authoring software used by external contributors and in-house editors. I also helped creating Movie Pilot’s comprehensive suite of target-audience analysis tools for marketing movies on social media.
Movie Pilot was aquired by Webedia / The Boxoffice Company in 2017.
